schooled

The other day I went to a school not far from the city, a school in the metro area. When I walked through the doors of the school I was transported. Transported to a rural-feeling school in a not so rural area. The air hung dead. Many of the faces had the same listless expression. It felt a bit more like a juvenile prison than a school. I hope the school is more than it appears. I hope that these children are being taught reading, writing and arithmetic. I hope these kids become more than statistics.

eggplant anyone?

Has anyone ever asked you for photos of eggplant for their birthday? A kind of strange, but fun, request. They are plump, shiny, purple and not inherently the most beautiful things to photograph. Eggcelent.

portholes

Who knew that some cars had portholes? That's what I'd compare to this back seat window. And it, like a porthole, can make one seasick.

missing

If anyone is missing this shoe, they can find it outside one of the greatest bookstores in all of the world - Powell's. I found it an odd place to lose a shoe, especially a pretty shoe like this. It's missing its pair.

piroshky & vatrushka

Oh, yum. Apple cinnamon piroshky. Cream cheese and berry vatrushka. That makes two smiling faces. Don't the names together sound like great composers? ;-)

walk on

In Seattle people walk on streets and buildings.
