my bales

When the clouds are gray and the sky is crying, Bales brings me sunshine.

back at the farm

I went back to Columbia last weekend and had the opportunity to swing by Jefferson Farm again. (See previous Jefferson Farm posts here.) Oh so beautiful. And even better at dusk.

swimming lessons

Sorry for the lull in posts. My friend borrowed my G9 for awhile so I'm catching up with old photos. So I heard labs are big swimmers. Baley has seemed pretty afraid of the water since I got her so we decided to test her out by taking her to a dog swim. Turns out my assumptions were right, but with some gentle coaxing and a few throw ins, she was doggie paddling. The best part was after she swam. She did several champion laps around the pool at full sprint speed. I think she was proud of herself ;-)

this little light of mine

Just a clarification, I haven't been in New England for two weeks. I was there over Labor Day weekend and am milking the pictures over the course of a few weeks. I am in the gray Midwest, and remembering the last vacation I'll probably take in 2008 makes me feel good. I always love a good lighthouse.

good eats

I would be doing a disservice by not blogging a little bit about the good food in the cape. Among the highlights was a boiled lobster from the Lobster Pot in Provincetown, pastries from the world famous Portuguese bakery also in P-town, mussels from the Vineyard and rhubarb waffles at a classic diner.

the north end

Gnocchi and gelato in Boston's North End - what a good combo. Have you ever ate tiramisu gelato in a small shop playing Italian music listening to mob-looking guys speak Italian at the table next to you? Try it. It's great.

p-town

Let's just say when I planned a trip to Cape Cod I wasn't expecting a place like Provincetown - the town at the tip of the cape. How sweet it is. P-town is a place of love and leisure. We rented a kayak, ate saltwater taffy and lobster, danced in the streets and had a true P-town experience.

martha's vineyard

Lyss and I rode the ferry over to Oak Bluffs in Martha's Vineyard on a rainy day. What a cool place. The colony of gingerbread homes amazed me. It looks like Seaside, Florida - where the Truman Show was filmed - but of course it was established decades before the film was released. It started off as a Methodist colony of tents and overtime transitioned into what it is today. Oak Bluffs is also home to the oldest carousel in America.

welcome to falmouth

Although it's somewhat pretty, the picture below is weeds growing in Lyss' gutter. Let's just say the house she is living in is a bit of a fixer upper, but with a little paint and sweat this place could be sweet. Cape Cod only got better as the week went on.

happy labor day

Happy Labor Day from Cape Cod. I have limited access to a computer with Photoshop, etc. so expect more posts this week updating you all on my past four days in Falmouth, Martha's Vineyard and P-Town. Here are a few snaps from a boat out in the harbor near Woods Hole, where I spent yesterday afternoon reading a book on the bow of a true party boat.
